Here's my shot at "Say Goodbye" by Sanctus Real, from their "Fight the Tide"
album. The strum pattern is pretty weird, so I'm not bothering with that.
Their guitar is tuned to D Standard (NOT Drop D), so it won't sound right
if your guitar is in E Standard tuning. A lot of hammer-ons and pull-offs
on the D string on the 2nd fret. The chord-change timing varies in the intro
and verses, as well. First half of intro, chord changes happen on about the
first and fourth beats; second half of intro, chord changes happen on first
and third beats. Listen to the song and I think you'll catch it.
Four harmonic plucks on 5th fret, then:
Intro:
Verse 1:
So say goodbye 'cause you'll be leaving soon
I know it's hard, and I'll be missing you
I know it's time to say goodbye
I know the road has worn you down
You never broke; you always held your ground
But now it's time to say goodbye
Prechorus:
I know we'll meet again, but I wish it'd never end
You don't mean to make me cry...but it's so hard to say goodbye
Chorus:
Say goodbyyy-yyy-yye; say goodbyyy-yyy-yye
Verse 2:
And though you're gone, I remember now
The time we shared; your words still ring out
You're never far; you're in my heart
Prechorus:
I know we'll meet again, but I wish it'd never end
You don't mean to make me cry...but it's so hard to say goodbye
Chorus:
Say goodbyyy-yyy-yye; say goodbyyy-yyy-yye
Prechorus:
I know we'll meet again, but I wish it'd never end
You don't mean to make me cry...but it's so hard...
End:
Someday we'll meet again, 'cause that's how the story ends
It's so hard to say goodbye
Say goodbye
