The picking he does is like this...

during the verse+bridge he simply doubles the basses and plays the notes of the middle

index finger

So a G would be:

At the end of each line he plays a D and what you hear is

...during the chorus the picking is like this -- i guess

And finally the G6 at the end is played like that:
