Passing Afternoon

This is a response to the other chords posted for this song, which are technically
However, instead of starting with D without a Capo, Put a Capo on the 2nd Fret and play
chords so you can leave the B string open throughout most of the song, as it is on the
Sounds more accurate this way, but the other way is fine if you prefer it. What I'm
F#/ D is played like so (it's technically a D):
E 2
A 5
D 0
G 0
B 0
E x
Otherwise, it's pretty self explanatory... Have fun, remember Capo 2nd. And, one thing
Sam Beam does a lot that isn't absolutely necessary but sounds nice: On the C and G
hit the harmony of the 3rd with a hammer on from the 2nd on the "3" beat (i.e. play a C,
the third string open and hammer on the second fret on the 3 count- same with G but
a string). I realize that I'm not good at explaining this in type but if you know what
saying, it's actually very common and very easy.
There are times that walk from you Like some passing afternoon
Summer warmed the open window Of her honeymoon
And she chose a yard to burn But the ground remembers her
Wooden spoons, her children stir her Bougainvillea blooms
There are things that drift away Like our endless numbered days
Autumn blew the quilt right off the Perfect bed she made
And she's chosen to believe In the hymns her mother sings
Sunday pulls it's children from the Piles of fallen leaves
There are sailing ships that pass All our bodies in the grass
Springtime calls her children 'til she Let's 'em go at last
And she's chosen where to be Though she's lost her wedding ring
Somewhere near her misplaced jar of Bougainvillea seeds
There are things we can't recall Blind as night that finds us all
Winter tucks her children in her Fragile china dolls
But my hands remember hers Rolling around the shady ferns
Naked arms are secrets still like Songs I'd never learned
There are names across the sea Only now I do believe
Sometimes with the window closed She'll sit and think of me
But she'll mend his tattered clothes And they'll kiss as if they know
A baby sleeps in all our bones So scared to be alone
