You know a dream is like a river ever changin' as it flows.
And the dreamer's just a vessel that must follow where it goes.
*D
Trying to learn from what's behind you, and never knowing what's in store
*D #D#
Makes each day a constant battle just to stay between the shores
CHORUS
*D *D
And I will sail my vessel 'til the river runs dry.
Like a bird upon the wind, these water's are my sky.
*D
I'll never reach my destination if I never try.
*D #D#
So, I will sail my vessel 'till the river runs dry.
2: Too many times we stand aside and let the water slip away
'Til what we put off 'til tomorrow has now become today.
So, don't you sit upon the shorline and say you're satisfied.
Choose to chance the rapids and dare to dance the tide.
(To Chorus:)
BRIDGE
And there's bound to be rough waters and I know I'll take some falls.
But with the Good Lord as my captain, I can make it through them all.
CHORUS (with key change)
Yes, I will sail my vessel 'til the river runs dry.
Like a bird upon the wind, these water's are my sky.
I'll never reach my destination if I never try.
So, I will sail my vessel 'till the river runs dry.
Yes, I will sail my vessel 'till the river runs dry.
'til the river runs dry.
By *D I mean to hammer on from Dsus2 (xx0230) to D (xx0232) on the 1st string.

Subject: My tab of "The River" by Garth Brooks
Is this OK for a tab style?
I'll offer a piece of tab that I did for someone recently. It's not my
usual favorite style of music, but what the hey. I'm not very good with
chord names, so maybe somebody can correct or help me.
Intro: G G(add A Bflat like 320013) G(add A C like 320033)
G (add A B flat as before)...D
During the verse, the guitar usually throws in a Dsus (xx0233) on the
first chord.
What I call chords and what they really mean.
D/F# is (200232)
You know a dream is like a river,
ever changing as it flows
And the dreamer's just a vesse
and I know I'll take some falls
But with the Good Lord as my Captain
I can make it through them all.
whats in store
Makes each day a constant battle
just to stay between the shores.
And I will sail my vessel
till the River runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
these waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
if I never try so I will sail my vessel
Till the River runs dry.
Too many times we stand aside
and let the waters slip away
Till what we've put off till tomorrow
has now become today
So don't you sit upon the shoreline
and say you're satisfied
Choose to chance the rapids
and dare to dance the tide.
CHORUS
BRIDGE
Well there's bound to be rough waters
and I know I'll take some falls
But with the Good Lord as my Captain
I can make it through them all.
Yes I will sail my vessel
till the River runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
these waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
if I never try
so I will sail my vessel
Till the River runs dry.
Yes I will sail my vessel Till the River runs dry.
You can fake a good ending staying on the A and suspending it
(x02230) and ending on the E.

The River
Garth Brooks
Intro: G chord, adding C# to it, moving into D
[Verse 1]
You know a dream is like a river, ever changing as it flows.
And a dreamer's just a vessel that must follow where it goes
Trying to learn from what's behind him
And never knowing what's in store
Makes each day a constant battle
Just to stay between the shores
[chorus]
And I will sail my vessel 'til the river runs dry,
Like a bird upon the wind these waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination if I never try
So I will sail my vessel 'til the river runs dry.
[Verse 2]
Too many times we stand aside and let the waters slip away
Eb/
'Til what we put off 'til tomorrow has now become today
So don't you sit upon the shoreline and say you're satisfied
Choose to chance the rapids and dare to dance the tide.
[chorus]
And I will sail my vessel 'til the river runs dry,
Like a bird upon the wind these waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination if I never try
So I will sail my vessel 'til the river runs dry.
[Bridge]
And there's bound to be rough waters
And I know I'll take some falls
But with the good Lord as my captain
A modulate into
E:
I can make it through them all
[chorus] (there are no chords played during the first 2 lines)
And I will sail my vessel 'til the river runs dry,
Like a bird upon the wind these waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination if I never try
So I will sail my vessel 'til the river runs dry.
Yes, I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
'Til the river runs dry
